The Grand Lady : a rejuvenation and extension breathes new life into PE’s shopping icon

Greenacres has consistently traded above national average trading densities and has maintained a 100% occupancy in recent years. This performance, as well as the need of majors and national tenants to expand their footprint in this established retail node, motivated the new owners to embark on a mall expansion and refurbishment.

The planned phased expansion will kick-start early in August with Phase 1, which includes a vibrant new food court and a range of shops that will appeal to connected people on the go.

New Food Court

Popular food brands are reinventing themselves and will open towards the end of April 2015 in an energised, multi-level environment with giant screens and lively entertainment. A new-generation Wimpy will present a totally new look, as not yet seen in SA, while local, great-value favourite Cassies, will raise their game and showcase their latest look and feel. Expect to see Steers and Debonairs in a new-look combo store. Offers from other big brands include Asian, chicken and fish options, which are being assessed for inclusion in the strong food offering.

New Retail Stores

Greenacres has always had a strong textile offering. In Phase 2 and 3 you can expect to see a bigger Edgars, Foschini and Jet, plus the introduction of many new fashion brands. Phase 1 will accommodate several relocations to make way for the changes in future phases. Cape Union Mart, Due South, Markhams, Don Marco and Green Cross will create a strong fashion and accessory statement, adjacent to the soon-to- be-upgraded Woolworths. In addition, a Vodacom super store, Cardies and Musica will be well positioned adjacent to the elevated seating area of the food court and the link mall to Shoprite in The Bridge. Nedbank will occupy a prime entrance location.

New Interiors and Bathrooms

Brand new state-of-the-art bathrooms will replace the existing bathrooms in
Phase 1. The malls will be treated with the same modern, sleek finishes. The contemporary, new entrance opens up to spacious areas with interesting ceiling detail that include a skylight and many quality finishes.

Construction will start in the first week of August 2014. Management will do everything possible to reduce the inconvenience of relocations, alternative access and change caused by the construction. Clear directional signage, customer service desks and regular messages on our website will assist in making customer visits as hassle-free as possible.
